Frequently Asked Questions
How much do lessons cost?
$40/half hour, $68/hour
What instruments do you teach?
I offer lessons on Cello, Guitar, Music Theory, and Composition!
How do online lessons work?
I use Google Calendar to create a unique event for you lesson. There will be a zoom link included in the event
Do I need a microphone?
I recommend all students purchase a microphone, as the built in microphones on laptops, tablets, etc. tend to not favor the cello sound very well. In order to give you the best feedback possible, I need to hear your sound as clearly and cleanly as possible.
Do I need an expensive microphone?
While you could shell out a few hundred dollars for a mic and interface, you can get a great sound from a USB microphone and spend no more than $20-40. No other equipment is needed! Here’s one I recommend.
Where do I get a cello? Should I rent or buy?
Always rent an instrument before you buy. Renting makes your upfront cost very low relative to purchasing, and most plans will cover your repairs and even accidental damage. Renting also allows you to size up when/if needed, and even trade to a higher quality instrument after you’ve been playing for a while. If you are in Denver, some resources for cello rentals are: Von’s Violins, Kolacny Music, Shar Music, and SouthWest Strings. (I am not affiliated with these rental programs in any way, and I do not receive any form of kickback or compensation from their rentals).
Search terms like “violin rentals” or “luthiers” (include your zip code in the search term) will get you the results you need. I recommend not trying chain stores like Guitar Center or Music & Arts as I think their instruments are of much lower quality than you’ll get by renting from a local, small business.
